Is My Sunblock Safe?

Is My Sunblock Safe?

As we all gear up for the Memorial Day weekend when many of us will be spending ample amounts of time in the sun, you may be wondering “is my sunblock safe?”  We’ve got the latest information about sunblock safety that we wanted to share with you.

A recent addition to the blog on the website of Dr. Oz talks about sunscreen and sunblock safety. The article, written by Victoria Maizes, MD, speaks of some of the questionable sun protection products out there that contain the ingredients oxybenzone (an endocrine disruptor) and vitamin A (or retinyl palmitate), which may increase your skin cancer risk.  Although the FDA has yet to recognize these warnings as valid, we at ToySplash are constantly on the lookout for products that we feel confident are safe to offer not only to you, our customer, but a product we would use for our own families as well.

When choosing a sunscreen, look for the following active ingredients: zinc oxide or titanium dioxide (safe mineral sunscreens) or 3 percent avobenzone.  OurIs My Sunblock Safe? Aloe Gator Natural Sunblock with an SPF of 30 falls into that category.  We think this is such a great product and of course, sun protection is proven to be extremely important! We recommend reapplying your sunblock every 2-3 hours when you are out in regular sun exposure. Our Aloe Gator is fragrance free which is also recommended by the experts.

At ToySplash, we are all about pool toys, water games and outdoor fun but we also want to remind you to be pro-active about skin protection for you and your family! Always use a safe, natural sunblock, wear a hat or visor and be sure to reapply that sunblock often. Sunburns are not only painful but dangerous. Make sure your kids are protected as well!

This Memorial Day weekend many of you will be enjoying the great outdoors whether it’s at the beach, the lake, a pool or at a Memorial Day party. No matter where you celebrate, remember these 5 tips:

  1. Re-apply a safe, natural sunblock often; every 2-3 hours.

  2. Drink plenty of water!! The sun can dehydrate you quickly so be sure to keep plenty of water and other hydrating liquids on hand for everyone.

  1. Wear a hat or visor to block the sun. Extra protection is always a great idea.

  2. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from those UV rays.

  3. ALWAYS watch your kids around water!!

Have a safe & fun Memorial Day weekend!!
