Banish the Boring Beach Ball!
Beach balls. They’re a staple of water fun, of summer, and of the beach. The classic six-panel, three-color look is traditional. But sometimes it can be so . . . boring. Here at the Splashdeck, we can’t stand boring! So, we have a fun family activity to help jazz up your six-panel beach ball and banish the boring beach ball!
Have you noticed the classic beach ball has several white panels? We think those panels are an invitation to express yourself and really make the ball your own. All you need is a permanent marker, but a quick trip to your local craft store will convince you that you need not stop there. A strong waterproof glue (be sure it’s safe on plastics and rubber so you don’t wreck your ball!) and some sparkly pieces can really make your ball unique. There’s no limit to what you can do!
We do recommend you tailor the decorations to your use, though. If your family plays gently and just wants something pretty to float in the pool, go to town with the decorations! The Water Fun Experts on the Splashdeck, however, tend to play hard, so we generally stick to permanent markers for decoration. Sharpies are our favorite and because they come in a wide variety of colors–from pastels to metallics–we don’t feel limited. Foregoing the three-dimensional decorations ensures we don’t lose any pieces in the pool (nobody wants to replace the pool motor) and prevents scrapes during vigorous water play.
Beach ball decoration is a great way to get your kids ready for a trip to the beach. And the decorated ball is easy to spot so it comes home with you at the end of the day. It’s also an awesome birthday party activity. Beach balls are inexpensive party favors, so you can let the kids decorate balls and then take them home at the end of the party! It doesn’t get any easier than that.
