Enjoying Your Hot Tub During the Winter Months
For those of us who revel in the joy of cold, snowy winters, having a hot tub can turn your backyard into a warm winter oasis. It’s a great relaxation space for friends and family all year round. Let's go over some tips for enjoying your hot tub during the winter months.
First, be safe walking to and from the hot tub and the house. Make sure you have a path shoveled and salted to avoid slipping (it's only funny on America's Funniest Home Videos). Make sure to have a robe or a towel to cover in to block your skin form the cold air as you travel. A pair of sandals or slippers will also keep your skin separated from the cold and snow. If you have ever sat in an outdoor hot tub during winter, you know the feeling of submerging into the warm water while your skin is still cold; it takes some time before your body adjusts. Minimize that adjustment period by staying warm on the walk.
Keeping your hot tub properly covered can reduce the energy requirements during the cold winter months. Be sure to remove excess snow from the top of the cover to keep the water underneath warmer.
A towel warmer, placed right next to your hot tube, will heat your towels up for you while you relax. A warm towel is not only comfortable, but more importantly keeps your body temperature from dropping.
Try not to get your hair wet or you can always wear a hat to keep your hair dry. Wearing a hat will also hold in the heat that is lost through the top of your head.
