Outrageous Ocean Week – Awesome Reads
Reading is such a great summer pastime. I love getting my kids’ imaginations working with a good book. Since it’s Outrageous Ocean Week here at the SplashDeck, I wanted to share a few good books with you. Find them at your library or bookstore or download them onto your favorite reading device.
Hello, Ocean
Spend a day at the beach, and take in the ocean through the senses of sight, hearing, feeling, taste, and smell in this lively romp through sand and waves. Glorious illustrations of water, sun, and sky accompany brief, evocative verses, making this a perfect keepsake of a seaside vacation or a striking introduction to the pleasures of a day by the ocean.
A Swim Through the Sea
This beautifully illustrated tour of the plants and animals of the undersea kingdom introduces children to one of our planet’s most precious and fragile realms. Each page highlights a selected species with a full-color illustration and a paragraph of fascinating facts. The alphabet book format provides parents with an engaging way of sharing this lovely, informative book with even the youngest audience. The author, Kristin Joy Pratt, shows her infectious love of nature and environmental awareness in a child-friendly, easy-to-learn format. Children of all ages will enjoy this award-winning book.
One Tiny Turtle
Far, far out at sea lives one of the world’s most mysterious creatures, the loggerhead turtle. For thirty years she swims the oceans, wandering thousands of miles as she searches for food. Then, one summer night, she lands on a beach to lay her eggs — the very same beach where she herself was born. Nicola Davies’s lyrical text offers fascinating information about the journey of the tiny, endangered loggerhead, while charming paintings by Jane Chapman vividly illustrate one turtle’s odyssey.
This book has received a 5* rating for it’s simple, lyrical words and lovely illustrations; sure to fascinate young readers. Share this amazing story with your little oceanographers!
Ocean – an Eyewitness Book
My children, especially the boys, love any and all Eyewitness Books! If you haven’t taken a look at this series of books yet, you really should. From the clear, crisp photography to the interesting facts and information about each subject, these books are great for kids both younger and older!
The Eyewitness Books are what my kids head for first whenever we go to the library. I am even fascinated by what I’ve learned from them!
Tomorrow: we will share the recipe for Ocean Water(this week’s Thirsty Thursday feature). Kids will love “drinking” the ocean! Check back for more exciting Outrageous Ocean Week tips and fun!
